Edgar Allen Poe arrived in Baltimore by boat from Richmond, Virginia. Poe was to only be in Baltimore to catch a train to Philadelphia the next day. He was going to visit his Aunt Maria Clemm (mother of his first wife) and she was going to accompany him back to Richmond for his wedding to Elmira Shelton. Poe checked into a Baltimore hotel and no one heard from or saw Poe until a week later. Joseph Walker was the man who found Edgar Allen Poe and took him to the hospital. He did not know it was the famous writer but only saw a man who needed immediate medical attention. Poe was taken to the Washington University Hospital of Baltimore where he later died, but today it still remains a mystery. How did Edgar Allen Poe really die? And what was he doing in Baltimore all that time? Those who last saw Poe stated that he was in good health and in good spirits. Before heading to Baltimore Poe said he would return in a few days. Poe had joined the Sons of Temperance, giving up all alcohol, and became a clean and sober man. So why was he drunk in the streets of Baltimore? What really happened that last night?
